GMP and Six Sigma Green Belt

I expanded my skill set by trainings in Good Manufacturing Practice and Six Sigma (Green Belt). Thus, I shift my expertise further toward industrial quality management and process optimisation.

From Steinbeck to Wiesner

I changed my name to Wiesner after marrying the best man alive.

Leaving America

With one last view of the Manhattan skyline and a sweaty walk through Central Park, I’m leaving America and heading back home to Germany. It was an incredibly enriching time: I was part of an amazing research lab, met such welcoming people, and experienced breathtaking nature. Overall, I truly enjoyed living the American life.

Research Abroad

Today was my first day as a postdoc abroad in the Griffin Lab at the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, VA, USA. Four months of exciting research on preventing volumetric muscle loss lie ahead of me, and it will also be an exciting time to explore what everyday life in the U.S. is really like.

Finally Dr.-Ing.!

I successfully defended my dissertation “Tailoring the Characteristics of Complex-Shaped Microgels” summa cum laude! It was an intense and thrilling time, with so much that I learned, both scientifically and personally. I’m proud to have finally earned this title and excited for what comes next.

Conference Talk on my Microgel Research

Today, I presented my research from the past few years at the international Microgels 2024 conference in Montabaur. I gave a twenty-minute oral presentation on “Tailoring Responsive Anisometric Microgels”. I’m really glad about this experience and it was great to share and discuss my work with the microgels community.

First First-Author Publication

I published my first first-author paper on magnetically actuable microgels for controlled motion, enabling microfluidic flow control and defined alignment. A list of all my publications is available under the Research tab.

Started PhD

After graduating in April (officially M.Sc., yay!), I just started my PhD at the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Wessling. I am excited to dive into interesting research, take on teaching, mentor students, and experience all the other tasks this position has to offer.
